School Self Evaluation
Discover a Place Where Every Child Thrives
At St. Fintan's High School, we are committed to providing the highest quality education for all students through a culture of reflection, collaboration, and continuous improvement. As a school under the trusteeship of Edmund Rice Schools Trust (ERST), our School Self-Evaluation (SSE) process reflects our core values of excellence in teaching and learning, respect, care, and community.
School Self-Evaluation is a collaborative and evidence-based process through which we review our work as a school, identify strengths and areas for development, and implement practical actions to improve outcomes for students.
What is SSE?
School Self-Evaluation (SSE) is a structured process used by schools across Ireland to improve teaching, learning, and student wellbeing. It allows schools to:
Reflect on current practices
Gather and analyse evidence
Identify priorities for improvement
Set achievable targets
Monitor progress over time
Enhance educational experiences for all students
Our SSE process supports whole-school development and ensures that the voices of students, parents, teachers, and the wider school community are valued and included.
Our SSE Committee
The SSE process at St. Fintan's High School is led by our dedicated SSE Committee, made up of members of staff representing a range of subject areas and school leadership roles.
The committee meets regularly throughout the school year to:
Review teaching and learning practices
Analyse student achievement and wellbeing data
Consult with staff, students, and parents
Identify areas for improvement
Set and review SSE targets
Support staff in implementing agreed actions
Monitor progress towards whole-school goals
The committee works collaboratively with all staff to ensure that SSE remains an active and meaningful part of school life.
SSE Targets and Areas of Focus
Each year, the SSE Committee works with staff to establish clear and measurable targets designed to improve student outcomes and strengthen teaching and learning across the school.
Current areas of focus include:
Literacy and numeracy development
Student wellbeing and inclusion
Digital learning and technology integration
Assessment and feedback strategies
Student engagement and attendance
Teaching methodologies and active learning
Progress towards these targets is reviewed regularly and informs future planning and development.
A Collaborative Approach
SSE is most effective when it is a shared responsibility. At St. Fintan's High School, we value the contribution of:
Students
Parents and guardians
Teaching staff
School leadership
Board of Management
The wider school community
Through consultation and open communication, we continue to build a positive learning environment where every student is encouraged to achieve their full potential.
Our Commitment
As part of the ERST school community, St. Fintan's High School is committed to ongoing improvement, innovation, and excellence in education. The SSE process helps us ensure that our school continues to meet the needs of all learners while upholding the values and traditions of Edmund Rice education.
