Guidance Department

Guidance in St. Fintan’s High School

The Guidance Counselling Department aims to offer a full range of learning experiences which are designed to assist students to make choices about their lives and support students throughout their time in post-primary school.

Our guidance programme seeks to create an inclusive and supportive environment that promotes personal achievement, wellbeing, career readiness, and lifelong learning. Working collaboratively with the whole-school community—including year heads, tutors, subject teachers, student support teams, and parents—we embed guidance throughout the school.

By offering a structured, developmental series of learning experiences, the guidance programme aids students in making well-informed decisions that will shape their academic and career paths, as well as their personal growth and wellbeing. It prepares students to manage the transitions associated with these decisions, building resilience and the ability to adapt and thrive in an ever-changing world. The programme operates within three key domains:

Personal and Social Development: Supporting self-awareness, emotional intelligence, wellbeing, resilience, and interpersonal skills.

Educational Development: Supporting academic growth and learning strategies, while enhancing skills necessary for academic success.

Vocational/Career Development: Helping students explore career options, make informed choices, develop career-management skills, and become aware of the full range of pathways and opportunities available.
